Get Well Soon, Carl Smucker

I guess it would be most appropriate to extend best wishes (condolences?) to anyone trying to recuperate in the same room, same ward, same wing or even same hospital as Carl Smucker. According to a family website (The Big Dad’s Journey) set up to keep his many fans updated on his recovery, Carl had more than 90 visitors in the first day after his emergency surgeries.
And these weren’t normal visitors. These were Smucker, Beiler and Stoltzfus visitors – some of the most boisterous friends and family members ever to disrupt a major medical facility with laughter, encouragement and best wishes.
Carl Smucker is the former President of Auntie Anne’s Soft Pretzels (and brother of Auntie Anne, Anne Beiler), and founder and President of HomePlace Structures. I served under Carl back in the Pretzel Wars of the 1980s. He’s a proud father (Mandi, Carson, Tess, and Christy) a devoted husband (hang in there, Fan) and one of the most widely respected men I know.
Last week, while on his way to work, Carl was in a serious motorcycle accident. His legs were crushed but, knowing Carl, his faith and his spirit remain intact.
Even if you don’t have the pleasure of knowing Carl, please say a prayer for his full and speedy recovery. He’s one of the good guys.
