Franchise Advertising: Sad Day for the Ice Cream Man… & Burger King
(Franchise Pick) Related: BURGER KING: What Were They Thinking?
It never fails… Burger King advertising always creeps me out.
Do you know what I mean? From that weird guy in the King mask peering into women’s bedroom windows to promote breakfast at BK to the angry cow trying to murder its cheating human lover for eating the flesh of another species (Burger King Cheesy Bacon Tendercrisp Commercial 2008: “Make Out Point”), there’s always some creepy vibe going on. For me, their commercials are just a little off the mark.
This “Sad Day for the Ice Cream Man” spot advances the creepiness into downright depressing insensitivity to me.
These are tough economic times for small business owners. Yet Burger King promotes its 89 cent soft serve cones by celebrating the demise of ice cream vendors. Where’s the humor in putting others out of business with low, low prices through low, low quality?
Maybe I’m being a bit too literal, but this spot strikes me as neither funny nor compelling… just insensitive, even mean-spirited.
I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next… maybe homeless, hungry ex-competitors being shooed away from a Burger King dumpster? Now that would be a hoot.
