Tips for Commuting to Your Home Business

(FranchisePick.Com)  Where I grew up, the Chicago & Northwestern Railway pretty much kept everyone on track.

Each morning, my father joined the commuters that moved briskly along the sidewalks, descended the metal stairs, and stationed themselves in little groups on the platform at the precise spots where the doors would open at precisely the same time each morning.

There was no room for discussion or debate.  You were either in your spot at the right time, or you were quickly reminded that there was no good second alternative.

The train was a precise and no-nonsense taskmaster… and a great mentor.

When my father started running his consulting business from home after an entire career in corporate America, he continued to get up as if he were leaving for the train.  Even when he had no appontments or meetings, he put on a suit and pressed shirt, tied his tie, ate a quick breakfast, and commuted upstairs to what was once my bedroom and was now his office.

It probably seems pretty illogical to those who have never worked from home for an extended period.

Those who have can have probably learned that seemingly illogical approaches are sometimes the most logical approaches of all.

At least when you work where you can’t hear the train horn blow, and there’s no one on the platform that you can line up behind.
